Dental Bridge

Sometimes called a fixed partial denture, a bridge is used to replace one or more missing teeth. Typically, these restorations are constructed by making crowns for the teeth on either side of a space where you are missing a tooth. An artificial tooth known as a pontic then is fixed to the two crowns, and then is cemented permanently to the adjoining teeth.

An alternative is a Maryland bridge. The missing teeth are attached to a metal framework which is bonded to the backs of your existing teeth.

Two office visits are required to complete this procedure. First, you will come to our office to have your teeth prepared and have impressions made – these impressions of your teeth will serve as a model, which will be used to construct your custom made restoration. The dentist will make a temporary crown for you to wear until your next visit – that will help protect your teeth and gums. At the second visit, we will confirm the fit of your bridge and adjust it as necessary to insure it fits properly and is comfortable. It will then be permanently cemented to your teeth.
